UMPSA and ITB Deepen Academic & Research Collaboration

PEKAN, 7 May 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) reinforced its regional strategic partnership agenda through a high-level academic and research engagement with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia.

The engagement marked another significant milestone in strengthening Malaysia-Indonesia higher education cooperation, particularly in advancing research excellence, postgraduate collaboration, talent development and internationalisation initiatives between both institutions.

The ITB delegation was led by Professor Ir. Tirto Prakoso, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology ITB, accompanied by senior academic and international representatives from the university.

The strategic discussion was coordinated by UMPSA Global under the leadership of Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herma Dina binti Setiabudi, Director of the Centre for Global Engagement UMPSA (UMPSA Global), and spearheaded together with the leadership of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), led by Professor Ir. Dr Ahmad Razlan bin Yusoff, Dean of FTKPM, and the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), led by Professor Ir. Dr Mohd Fairusham bin Ghazali, Dean of FTKMA. The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI) was represented by Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hafiz bin Mazwir, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs & Alumni).

Building on the longstanding collaboration established through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2019, both institutions expressed strong commitment towards expanding strategic cooperation in key areas including postgraduate academic programmes, joint research initiatives, academic mobility, industry-linked collaborations and future double-degree opportunities.

The engagement also served as a platform to strengthen research networking and explore collaborative initiatives in emerging and high-impact fields aligned with global industrial and technological developments.

The delegation subsequently visited the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) at the UMPSA Gambang Campus, holding engagement sessions with the management team to discuss future collaborations.

Through a series of strategic engagements and laboratory visits, both universities identified significant potential for deeper collaboration that will contribute towards regional knowledge advancement, innovation capacity and the development of globally competent talents.

The visit reflects UMPSA’s continued commitment to positioning the university as a leading regional partner in higher education collaboration while accelerating its global engagement and internationalisation aspirations through impactful and sustainable partnerships.
